Have you heard the saying 'prevention is better than the cure'?

When it comes to your vehicle this is so true and will absolutely hands-down keep your automotive expenses to a minimum.

For friendly, honest advice contact us for an obligation free estimate.

Whether your vehicle needs routine service or emergency repair, you can trust our team of experts at our Masterton based workshop. We are a modern family-owned, MTA assured shop with old-fashioned values - like honesty and integrity.

Toms Autos is owned and operated by five times New Zealand Rally Champions – Richard and Sara Mason. Our history in the Wairarapa runs deep – it was opened more than 40 years ago by Richards’ parents Tom and Alison Mason.

At Toms Autos we have some of the very finest technicians Masterton has to offer – with several having worked at Mazda, Citroen, Volvo and Toyota franchises. Two of our technicians have recently received training in hybrid and electrical vehicle diagnostics, maintenance and servicing.

A key component to the success of our workshop is the passion every team member has to produce a high standard of customer satisfaction.

The pride in our work is supported by the use of trusted leading industry brands. Because we are independently owned and operated, we are not biased to just one supplier, therefore we will help you find the best option for your motoring needs. Through extensive history in top level motorsport we have found brands that can be trusted - Total Oil, Mickey Thompson Tires, Ironman 4x4, Dunlop and many more supply products to our workshop. Customers can be assured their vehicles will be treated professionally, effectively and efficiently on all levels.

We are proud to be a member of the Auto Super Shoppe Group and one of 80+ workshops nationwide selected to represent the Auto Super Shoppe brand. Through the combined effort of industry suppliers backing the "premium service centre" philosophy, Auto Super Shoppes have selected the best workshops throughout New Zealand to join the Auto Super Shoppe network.

We offer a fantastic service for those who train to Wellington - we can pick your vehicle up from the train station, service or repair it then drop it back ready for your return on the train.

You can count on us - wherever and whenever your vehicle needs help. With a variety of offerings to choose from, we are sure you will be happy working with us. Look around our website and if you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact us.

Matariki - 24th June 2022

Twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki signals the Māori New Year. The star cluster is visible to the naked eye from most parts of our planet and has many different names. In European tradition it is called the Pleiades (its ancient Greek name) or the Seven Sisters. The Hawaiian name is Makali‘i, or ‘eyes of royalty’, and in Japan it is Subaru, meaning ‘gathered together.’ There are about 500 stars in the Matariki cluster, but only seven to nine are visible without a telescope and it is considered 'close to earth' - If you drove there in a car at a speed of 100km/hr, you would arrive in 4.8 billion years!

Many iwi speak of the Matariki stars as a mother and her daughters. For Māori, the appearance of Matariki heralds a time of remembrance, joy and peace. It is a time for communities to come together and celebrate. - traditionally, Matariki was a time to acknowledge the dead and to release their spirits to become stars. It was also a time to reflect, to be thankful to the gods for the harvest, to feast and to share the bounty of the harvest with family and friends.

We hope you all have a great long weekend! 😁

Every year in NZ, more than 7.75 million tyres reach their end of life and it is estimated that 70% are going to landfill, stockpiled or illegally dumped!

We are always looking at ways to reduce the damage to our environment and have teamed up with the team at Treadlite to do just that! We pay for all of our second hand tyres to be turned into Premium Horse Arena Mix right here in NZ.

We are proud to see the product throughout competition equestrian centre's and private horse arenas in NZ. They have exciting ideas to expand into roading and artificial sports fields too so watch this space!

HUGE congratulations to Dayle for receiving his Mito Qualification in Electric Vehicles. 👏👏👏 Great work - we are very proud of the mahi you put in!

Every now and then we get a vehicle in that causes all techs to drop tools and check it out... This was one such vehicle and is a timely reminder why servicing your vehicle is so important! This lovely little Mazda came in with a broken camshaft caused by a lack of servicing - you can see on the inside of the tappet cover just how much sludge and vanish had built up. The engine had to be replaced as there was no salvaging from the damage that had been done.

Wohooo Richard has just won the MTA Cook Strait Good Sort Award! He won it for his top level of service, high energy, nurturing manner with our apprentices and being the glue that keeps us a tight team 😁 The whole crew was rewarded with a DELICIOUS morning team from the wonderful The Clareville Bakery

We are STOKED to receive our Auto Super Shoppe Environmental Standards Accreditation 🙂 To get this we needed to meet certain standards that help contribute to a greener and more environmentally friendly business.

Some of our initiatives include:

🌱 Recycling all of our used oil via a ROSE (Recovering Oil Saves the Environment) accredited company. The collected oil is re-processed where required and then used as a fuel in high temperature industrial burning applications such as Asphalt Plants and Timber Production.

🌱 Recycling our 20L plastic containers. These are sent to be chipped, cleaned and distributed to manufactures. Previously our recycled 20's have been used as a supplement in the bitumen for road sealing trials.

🌱 Recycling our used tyres. We pay to have end of life tyres recycled with a registered member of the New Zealand Tyre Recycling and Collections Association.

🌱 Recycling our used batteries. All of our end of life batteries are responsibly recycled through our partner Exide. Exide Batteries have their own recycling plant where over 98% of lead acid batteries are able to be recycled.

🌱 Recycle our cardboard. Our cardboard is separated at our workshop and responsibly recycled at our local depot.

Not long to go now!!! We still have some space available next week so give us a call, message or email if your car needs some love before Christmas 🙂 #Tyres #WheelAlignments #WOFS #Servicing #Maintenance #WOFrepairs #Funnynoises #PreHolidayCheckUp (06)3787351 [email protected] https://www.tomsautos.co.nz/book-in🤶🎅

Your Car Battery

We are not using our cars much at the moment and you may find that you could start having problems starting it...

Modern day cars are full of computers which absorb energy, and if a car is sitting and not recharging, the battery can die within two weeks. Your car battery is the vehicle system that is most susceptible to inactivity-induced problems.

If you are not using your car much, to help save your battery you can:

- Remove the negative battery connection while its sitting around (just make sure to reconnect the terminal before attempting to start the car)

- Place the vehicle on trickle charge (if you have one)

- Start the car at least once a week and run it for 20-30 min (in a well ventilated area!) just to keep the battery topped up.

Please note running your vehicle for a short period won’t be able to drastically alter the amount of charge in a battery, but it’ll help.

Did you know - Frequent, short car trips contribute to an earlier lifespan for car batteries. It takes roughly eight hours of continuous driving for the alternator to fully charge the battery.

Families come in lots of different shapes and sizes. Ours is a bit like fudge - mostly sweet but with a few nuts! 🤪

Family is really important to us here at Toms Autos so we have decided to close the doors on the 7th Feb 2020 as a "Family Day" to give all of our hard working team an extra day to spend making memories with their loved ones

We have been very busying transforming Ute's here at Toms - here is a few of our favourites:

We are really stoked to win some awards at the Auto Super Shoppe conference in the Gold Coast July 2019!!! Out of 94 other workshops we were awarded the Tyres 4 U suppliers choice award, won a wheel balancer from Repco and Sara received her certificate in acknowledgement of recent appointment to the Auto Super Shoppe advisory board. We couldn't have done this without you wonderful customers and our awesome Toms Autos team - thanks everyone!

We love solving your automotive problems and now we can take the pressure off financially too! We are very excited to now offer a payment plan for those unexpected (or expected!) WOF Repairs and Tyres.

NO Interest - NO Hidden Fees - Takes 2 Mins - Up To $1000 Credit - Payments Spread Over 10 Weeks - Free Estimates.

Here to make your life easier ;)

Why You Need To Change Your Oil & Filter

Check out this... this is a great example of why you need to service your vehicle.

This is an oil filter that came out of a car we serviced a few days ago. It was 55,000km overdue for an oil and filter change 😳 Engine failure was just around the corner!

The value in servicing your vehicle is often quite hard to visualize but this picture says 1000 words.

Mickey Thompson Tires

Check out these awesome new Mickey Mud Tyres (375/65R16) we have just fitted on Bill Perry's serious Landrover. Looking mean!
